Aragon’s King Alfonso III is recognized as the creator of the Militare Ordine di Collare di Sant’Agata dei Paternò. This knightly association came into existence on 23rd January 1289. The reason for its establishment was protecting Minorca. The Fortress of Saint Agatha was the residence of these knights. Later people started calling them as the knights from Saint Agatha.
