You might not realise this but Britain has incredibly well over 7,000 miles of coastline, more that the likes of Italy, France and Spain. As a result Britain is blessed with many fine seaside locations. There are so many to mention from tiny secluded beaches to almost tropical blue waters, that the list has condense down to mention some of the most popular seaside locations in the country.
Brighton
Brighton is fast establishing itself as one of the premier holiday destinations in the UK. Unlike some seaside resorts Brighton has more to it than just a beach; it is one of the funnest, most vibrant cities in the country. The city is packed with things to see and do from chic shops to funfairs, fish and chip shops to trendy fusion food. Brighton has a large sea front with large beaches lapped by the English Channel. The heart of the sea front is the famous pier; recently refurbished the pier is still as fun and entertaining as ever. If that wasn’t enough, Brighton enjoys a slightly warmer climate than much of the rest of the country.
Blackpool
The quintessential seaside resort that has been delighting for generations and still has much to offer. The town has not one but three piers packed full of theatres, amusements, shops and rides to keep you entertained for hours. The town is also famous for its ballrooms so why not dust of those dancing shoes and try your hand at a bit of strictly style dancing. Most people now spend just a long weekend in the town rather than a week’s long holiday but with so much to do you will struggle to fit it all in to just one weekend.
Pembrokeshire
Pembrokeshire is a county in south west Wales which can boast some of the most spectacular coastline in the British Isles. So good in fact is the coastline that it has been made into Britain’s only predominantly coastal National Park. The Park contains numerous species of wildlife, golden sandy beaches, spooky caves, pretty coves, rugged sea cliffs, tranquil islands and a stunning stretch of countryside that’s runs for miles and miles. Rather than just one town Pembrokeshire has a number for towns and villages along the coast all with their own charm and style. One of the most popular towns in the area is Tenby, which has many great things to see and do and some fantastic award winning beaches.
Newquay
The surf capital of the UK, Newquay is one of the most popular tourist destinations for sun, sea and sand lovers. Newquay has bucked the trend of many seaside towns by growing more and more popular each year. This may be in part down to the image of the town. While many have an old fashioned slightly tacky image, Newquay is seen as a fun, young and vibrant town and is the place to be seen for anyone with even a passing interest in surfing. If you’re not a surfer however don’t worry as there is so much to see and do and plenty of beautiful sandy beaches to keep anyone, regardless of age or interest, happy.
