  • Palm oil puts case against environmentalists' false claims  By : Palm Oil Truth Foundation-52406
Reprinted from The National Business Review

Global warming is fast petering out as a cause that raises alarm and over-fishing is also less of a threat, thanks to the introduction of quotas and other measures.

So what's new in the list of campaigns that attempt to undermine western industrialised economies and keep the Third World locked in poverty?

Palm oil is one, and it has come under attack from a concerted media campaign, headed by Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.

  • Palm oil, Starsuckers and Media Manipulation  By : Palm Oil Truth Foundation-52406
What do Amy Winehouse's flaming beehive and Guy Ritchie's self-inflicted black eye have in common?

Both stories appeared in the pages of Britain's tabloid press. Neither is true.

The two incidents were fake showbiz news tips phoned into newspapers by the makers of the new documentary "Starsuckers," to see whether they would be used without fact-checking. The fact that they were forms part of the movie's argument that the culture of celebrity has undermined journalistic standards and warped society's values.

The sad thing is that the media is guilty of the same level of journalistic negligence in respect of the anti-palm oil lobby, often running stories fed to it by "environmental NGOs" such as Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth (FOE) on palm oil and deforestation without fact checking.

  • Help the Environment and your Bank Balance through your use of Electricity  By : Shout SEO
There are a number of ways in which we can save energy but whichever way we go about it the one fact that remains the same is we are reducing the demand for fossil fuels such as coal, oil and natural gas. • Energy Australia: Why cutting carbon emissions and saving money on our energy bills calls for ‘hard actions'  By : Sarah Maple-11606
Energy usage is a big issue in Australia currently, and in order for the country to meet its carbon reduction targets, i.e the abatement of 138 million tonnes of green gases every year by 2020, energy prices have risen with the hope of spurring the public to be more conscious of the energy it is using. The call for ‘hard actions' by Keith Orchison in the Business Spectator comes at a time when a recent survey by a leading Australian comparison website found that 92 percent of those asked were more concerned about the price of energy than they had been a year earlier.

  • Ignoratio elenchi of the anti-Palm Oil fringe on Fonterra  By : Deforestation Watch-52409
Ignoratio Elenchi is the informal fallacy of presenting an argument that may in itself be valid, but does not address the issue in question. "Ignoratio elenchi" can be roughly translated by ignorance of refutation, that is, ignorance of what a refutation is.

This Latin idiom is most appropriate in the light of Greenpeace's baffling attack against dairy giant Fonterra for using palm kernel expeller based animal feed alleging that the practice results in massive deforestation.

In response, the Federated Farmers and the country's ports are calling for a tough line against Greenpeace activists who held up a cargo ship unloading its load of palm kernel, labelling them "pirates".

  • The infinite number of fools behind the anti-palm oil campaigns  By : Palm Oil Truth Foundation-52406
There is a famous Latin maxim "Infinitus est numerus stultorum" which can be loosely translated as "Infinite is the number of fools". This maxim is remarkably apt when applied to the current anti-palm oil hysteria propagated by the likes of Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth (FOE), Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and the Palm Oil Action Group (POA) and blindly lapped up by the mainstream media.

What is clearly a well funded and meticulously planned and executed proxy trade war is cleverly disguised as genuine concern for environmental conservation.
  • Palm Oil and Climate Change talks  By : Palm Oil Truth Foundation-52406
The United Nations Climate Change talks which kicked off in Bangkok on 28th September 2009 is a timely reminder that time is quickly running out for finalizing a new climate deal in Copenhagen in December.

With more than 4,000 delegates convening in Bangkok to discuss climate change over the next days, World Growth, a nongovernmental organization and palm oil advocate, decided it was the time to launch its campaign.

World Growth's "Palm Oil Green Development Campaign" will focus on "setting the record straight and correcting the falsehoods and misconceptions" propagated by others like Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth.

In the UK, debates surrounding renewable energy and the increasing importance of cutting our carbon emissions have mostly centred around the planning and development of wind farms and other sources - which take a significant amount of time to establish and implement. However, in the meantime there is the no less important matter of how best we manage the existing carbon we are producing.

What follows is a short guide to four surprising energy inefficient public buildings.
  • Integrity Deficit of the Anti-Palm Oil Lobbies  By : Palm Oil Truth Foundation-52406
Any idea that the smear campaigns organized by "environmental organizations" like the Palm Oil Action Group (POA), Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth (FOE), the Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and the infamous Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) purporting to show that palm oil cultivation is responsible for a whole host of environmental issues has any shred of credibility goes right up in smoke under the most cursory examination.

Not, that that makes a bit of difference to a mainstream "mediocracy" constantly banging the drum against one of the most productive and sustainable of oilseeds in the world.

  • The Link Between Free Energy and a Sustainable Living  By : The7 Ratman7
Some of us are of the notion that a sustainable living means living in denial without the pleasures and conveniences of modern lifestyles or gadgets. This simply is not true. All it means is lessening our impact on the energy grid by making use of the renewable energy that is provided free of cost by the nature and surroundings that we are endowed with. You can use all the gadgets and tools that you want but the only difference is that you would be using free energy sources to power them. This will make a significant difference in the energy security of our country.

  • The UK Wind Power Backlash  By : Sarah Maple-11606
Recent developments in the tidal power sector are causing many to speak out against the UK government's reliance on wind power to ensure we meet our renewable energy goals. According to The Times, if the government wants to hit its target, the UK needs to build around 7,000 more wind-turbines - a high number if one considers the amount of not-in-my-back-yard-ism and anti-wind petitioning that meets nearly every planned wind farm.

  • Solar Energy: Why all eyes are on Israel  By : Sarah Maple-11606
In the UK, solar energy is still something of a confusing answer to the problems posed by our ever-dwindling fossil fuel resources. This confusion is unsurprising, our northern European climate is rarely associated with scorching heat - and a quick look at our landscape and coast shows ample area for wind and tidal power. Yet, in recent times the increasing affordability of solar hot water and proof of the benefits that come with it is causing more of us to consider installing solar collectors. But to really keep abreast of the developments in solar technology, we can learn the most from Israel.
  • Construction Surveyor  By : Peter Brittain
The Construction surveyors carryout measurements and advise engineers, architects, contractors and other associated professionals, during all stages of construction projects. Thus the construction surveyor takes an important role on construction of bridges, houses, skyscrapers, underground tunnels, pipelines, utility networks, refineries, shopping centers, and offshore oil rigs and the list is endless. As we know, the construction surveyors have to get involved at various stages of a project. In most of these projects, the construction surveyor has to get involved at the initial stage of the job. They are responsible for verifying the accuracy of construction when any structure is being built or subject to modification. Once the construction job is completed, they check the construction to ensure whether work is completed in line with the original plans and local authority requirements.
  • Night storage memories and Energy Management  By : Sarah Maple-11606
We had a large storage heater in our rustic country kitchen. In the cold months it was a seat of sorts. The coal fire in the living room rarely gave off enough heat to filter through to the rest of the house. Even first time guests would find themselves perched against the large metal frame of the night storage heater in our kitchen. It stayed hot all day, but towards the evening the intensity of the heat eased off. My new home had storage heaters, and these childhood memories were fond, but I knew it meant I needed to do some energy management and find a more efficient way of heating our house.
  • How motorcycling turned me on to efficient energy management  By : Sarah Maple-11606
Always when riding my motorcycle the concept of energy management returns to my thoughts. It's the trip meter that does it. I can work out distance divided by fuel used. Compared with a car, the fuel economy is great. It was last summer on weekend on a run up the coast, under a clear blue sky, and with a mild tailwind, that I realised I could be doing the same thing at home - working out a new energy management schedule. I've used some helpful and not so helpful online energy management resources, and eventually actually saved some real money!
  • Green Loans: Why does it cost money to save money?  By : Sarah Maple-11606
This weather is dictating my domestic aspirations. It's too wet to cut the grass, too cold to wash the car, and too dark to fix the shed. The heaters are on full but the house is still so cold I'm wearing two jumpers and a woolly hat and gloves just to feel comparatively warm. I'm wondering if the climate now is just varying degrees of unbearable cold.
  • Energy Management: Sound proof and expense proof  By : Sarah Maple-11606
I've lived by busy highways with cars and lorries thundering by, by the ocean with the sound of waves breaking on a distant reef, and in a town bustling with the chatter and to and thro of shoppers and deliveries. But if there's one sound I cannot tolerate it's sound of barking dogs, day in and day out. I needed double-glazing and I needed the money to pay for it.
  • Energy management only for wealthy people?  By : Sarah Maple-11606
We've known for a long time that saving energy means less hassle and less waste. So why is it, with all our technology, that we still end up paying for than we have to for the energy we use? I guess it's to do with profit. Our land mass is huge - yet Australian energy companies have taken years to get round to the idea of using alternative technologies.
  • Confused about energy efficient products?  By : Sarah Maple-11606
Sometimes it's easier to pay someone else to do a job that you might have done yourself. Like repairing the garden shed, or carrying out an energy management assessment. To find out about saving money on fuel bills, which essentially is what energy management is all about - or at least what I view it as, you can put in hours of research, and still be confused. It's better, in my case in hindsight, to go to someone who knows how to do it, whose job is to do it, and who'll give you all the information you need on energy efficiency for free.
