Work at Home Without Getting Burned

By: Stephen Borgman

I had read Robert Kyosaki’s Rich Dad Poor Dad. I was ready to do something differently. It was time to get started. It was time to start a work at home business opportunity.

But what does it mean to work from home? Is every opportunity legitimate? Or is there a scam lurking around every corner?
When you get into a meaningful relationship, is speed dating the way to go, or do you want to have a little more information on this person?
In the same way, it pays to ask the right questions, and to take your time getting to know what you are getting into.

Here are some basic questions you will want to ask:
• Is there enough information about this opportunity to let me know what I need to get this business working successfully?
• When and how will I get paid?
• Is the time required for this opportunity going to match what I have to give in terms of my time?

Asking these questions could mean the difference between a ‘blind date’ that you want to forget, or the beginning of a ‘meaningful relationship’ with a business that could become your retirement plan!

How can you find out information regarding the different opportunities?

1. Take part in work at home forums. One of many such forums is WAHM (Work at Home Moms). The link is http://www.wahm.com/forum/default.asp. You can also type work at home forums into any search engine to find a number of helpful forums in which you can ask for advice about different business opportunities.

2. Take part in any forum located at the site. That way you can find out the good, the bad, and the ugly. It pays to have a realistic assessment of the pros and cons of the opportunity you are about to commit to.

3. Many companies will allow you to have a time limited ‘free membership,’ thus allowing you to test drive the opportunity.
By asking these questions and finding some answers, you will feel more savvy as you approach your first home based business opportunity.
