Wise Decision The Environmental Protection Agency has denied Texas Gov. Rick Perry's request for a 50 percent waiver of the country's renewable fuel requirements. The decision is especially noteworthy because it is based on an exhaustive review of facts and analysis presented by scores of experts, including many in the biofuels industry, during a public comment period. The EPA examined all of it -- estimates of biofuels’ positive benefits for consumers and the economy, and allegations of harm -- and came down in favor of continuing to expand the use of renewable fuel requirements. This is an important win for the whole country. It ensures that consumers will continue to benefit from an expanding supply of domestically produced renewable fuel, which is helping to lower gas prices. And the continued investment in biofuels furthers the broader goals of reducing oil imports and moving toward more environmentally sustainable alternatives.
