What Makes Florida The Perfect Holiday Destination?

By: Jonathan Wallace

When a state has the nickname ‘the Sunshine State', you know it must be special. Year after year thousands of people head to Florida for their summer holidays. They span all ages and vary from couples to families.

Why do they go? Is it all about the big name theme parks and resorts or is there more to see?

While many people do spend their entire holiday enjoying such venues as Disney World, Epcot and Busch Gardens, Florida has a lot more to offer as well. So even if theme parks aren't your thing, you won't run short of places to go and attractions to visit while you are there.

Florida also benefits from having thousands of miles of coastline. This means you have countless beaches to choose from. All of them will allow you to take full advantage of the largely fantastic weather conditions in the state.

The Siesta Key Public Beach on the western coast of Florida near Sarasota is much loved by both locals and tourists. It's ideal for families but most people will be able to find somewhere just right to settle down and soak up some sun for the day.

There are plenty of more famous beaches in Florida too, such as Daytona Beach. This is far more than just a beach, but there is no doubt that the white sands that stretch for more than 20 miles are what attract a lot of holidaymakers each year. If you visit at the right time of year you might also be able to watch baby turtles hatching and making their way down to the sea.

Florida beaches offer the ideal place to spend a relaxing break doing as little as possible, but if a driving holiday suits you better, the best place to head to is the Florida Keys.

The Keys are strung out at the southern end of Florida, and include Key Largo – close to the Everglades – and Key West, which is the southernmost Key of them all. If you go that far you can enjoy walking and cycling tours of the city.

Florida offers plenty of other cities to visit too, if you would like a taste of some of the most famous cities in the US. The top choice must surely be Miami, which nestles on the eastern coast of Florida. Its position as a popular venue for lots of television shows to be set or filmed in adds to the attraction.

As you can see, there are Florida holidays available to suit all tastes, age groups and desires. This is the main reason why it has been so popular in the past, and will continue to be so for long into the future as well.
