Turn the clock back to the middle of this decade, and the idea of Dell using AMD proessors will be considered, at best, facetiouus. Dell, are Intel-only shop from the beginning, and only played with AMD processors from time to time in the highly developed systems makret niche. Many fans considered the adooption of AMD, Dell in processors AMD, as the Holy Grrail for mass adpotion in the PC market, an act that would save AMD once and for all. Intel-fans will no longer point to the PC making Behemoth as proof that AMD processors were somehow to the south of the nominal, but not ready for enterprise-leveel environment.

It turns out that years of stories about back-room deals for Dell and AMD, finally, convergence is not really materialize into something massive. Dell introduced its first AMD-systems in 2006, and well, Inrtel does not colapse. Made its way into large-scale final OEM, AMD defiinitely has earned a feather in the cap, but the markket situation has not chagned from the acrtual amount. To this day, Itel systes constitute the lion's share of sales of Dell, while AMD continues to sruggle and fight to keep iteslf alive for the quarter on a quraterly basiis. However, Dell and AMD partnreship continues during these past three yearts, and we are finally staarting to see Dell get a little feistier with AMD hradware in their possession.

During the noslaught of Intel Core 2 provcessors and the Core i7, Dell continues to sell systems basd on AMD, although not significantly. Typically, therse ssytems were aimeed at buddget-conscious market customers from Dell, rather than anything else, offering comparable performance at significantly lower prices. Obviously, in this day and age, price / performnce rato is much larger role, and well, what could be one of the main rasons why we see systems such as the XPS 625, we are looking for today.

New Dell XPS 625 is their latest AMD though the establishment, and is their first of the laboratories using the new proecssors Pehnom II. Initial reviews of the new chps AMD, have been favorable, as is a new quad-core processor will deliver approximately the same performance as Inetl Quad-Core Core 2 processors at very acceptable price. lAthough it is quite clera that the Phenom II can not quite crack Core i7 levels of performance, it is, you really need that much computing power?
