Despite its relatively small size, just 50 miles at its widest point, Fife encompasses several different regions. Dunfirmline and West Fife – Western Fife is dominated by Dunfirmline, the capital city of Scotland for six centuries until 1603. The area is home to a large amount of industry ranging from small cottage industries to nuclear submarine refitting. Away from the industry there is still plenty of beautiful country side and coastline while Culross is regarded as one of the prettiest towns in all of Scotland. One of the most iconic landmarks in the area is the Forth Bridge linking Fife with Edinburgh. Kirkcaldy, Leven and District – Like western Fife this are has a strong industrial base but still boasts beautiful Scottish countryside and many historic towns and villages along its coastline. The Principle town in the area is Kirkcaldy or 'Lang Toun' as it’s sometimes none because of its near 4 mile long main street, which plays host to Europe’s longest street fair. The area also has its fair share of great golf courses. East Neuk of Fife – East Neuk is home to many ancient fishing villages which has become popular with holiday makers and weekenders from Glasgow and Edinburgh. As a result of its popularity the area is home to some fantastic restaurants, with seafood a particular specialty. The areas coastline is regarded as the finest in all of Fife and helps create many fantastic wind swept golf courses. St Andrews, North Fife & the Howe of Fife – St Andrews, the home of Golf, is one of the main attractions in northern Fife. The ancient town and its golf course is rich in history with its golf course and ruined abbey, once the centre of the Scottish church. Upon the River Eden lies Cupar the capital of Fife. The town retains much of its medieval splendour.
