There are plenty of things to see and do in Portsmouth, whether you are just there for an hour, a day or longer. As you would expect Portsmouth has a fascinating history which you can see throughout the city from the HMS Warrior 1860 to no less than 12 museums many of which are housed in the ancient forts along the water front that have helped protect the city for centuries. Portsmouth isn’t just home to rich history, there are plenty of modern attractions too. The Spinnaker is perhaps the most famous modern landmark in Portsmouth. The Spinnaker is modeled on a sail to reflect Portsmouth long history with the sea. The tower is 2.5 times taller than Nelsons Column and is the tallest accessible structure in the UK outside of London. The tower forms the centre piece of the redevelopment of Portsmouth Harbour which also includes an award winning shopping centre and leisure complex, with over 20 cosmopolitan bars and restaurants as well as nightclubs, a multi-plex cinema and bowling. There are plenty of things for the kids to do too. The Pyramids Fun Pool, Blue Reef Aquarium, Action Stations and Play Zone offer kids a wide choice of things to do and see from just plain fun to great interactions where they can learn while they play, perfect for a rainy day. When the sun does shine they can take advantage of the playgrounds, funfairs and plenty of open space to play games or even fly a kite. Southsea is one of the most popular areas of Portsmouth. Though part of the city the area has managed to retain its own individual feels which makes it different to anywhere else in the city. The town has plenty of fantastic restaurants and boutique shops that make it well worth a visit.
