There are many reasons why someone would want to find ways to help the environment. Over the many years as technology, industry and people have grown the environment we live in has taken some serious abuse. With all the pollution, filling the air and killing the ozone many people are beginning to worry about the effects this will have. In addition, the cutting down of many forests across the world also does not help this situation since plants and trees are very large producers of oxygen, which we need. Our planet is in trouble and many people are finding new ways to deal with these problems to minimize the risk of doing serious damage to our environment. A large problem we have in today's society concerning pollution is the use of energies like fossil fuels. Petroleum is a fossil fuel and is widely used in fueling cars. The emissions they are sent into the atmosphere upon burning such fossil fuels diminish our ozone. In fact, use of energy overall, and the burning of fossil fuels to generate the power, is something that scientists are working towards overcoming. One such area of progress is solar power, which captures the sun's energy through solar panels, and transforms it into electricity. Solar power is certainly much more environmentally friendly than using more traditional methods of producing electricity, such as burning tonnes of fossils fuels. Other similar alternatives are wind power and hydropower. The principles behind Hydro and Wind power are essentially the same as solar power, which is to harness a natural energy source and transform it into electricity. In relation to wind power, large wind turbines are driven by the wind, creating energy. There are many other effective ways to help the environment other than using a new and alternative energy source. Getting involved in recycling would be a great way to help keep your environment clean and healthy. Large landfills are proving to be very hazardous for the ozone by releasing chemicals and toxicants in the air. By recycling, not only do you cut down on the garbage that will fill our land but also you cut down how many trees we chop down. One area within recycling in particular is the use and reuse of paper. Our society uses a lot of paper, created from trees, and the more paper we can re-use or recycle, the less trees we will need to cut down. There are lots of organizations that have been set up to help the environment. Lots of them need assistance with funding and volunteering. If you are interested in helping to protect the environment, there are certainly lots of places you can do it.
