Washington Inns Offer Ambiance, Amenities

By: Jane Leisteiner

Seattle and its surrounding area offer so many activities that it can be difficult to pick just a few. Although you could spend a happy week just exploring the city, there are plenty of spots an hour or two away that warrant consideration.
Seattle is a city of clean, fresh air and plenty of parks and recreation. You can walk or jog along the Puget Sound at Myrtle Edwards Park which winds along Elliot Bay. From there you can explore downtown, including the famous Pike Place Market with its fresh food and flower stands. A tour of the Seattle Underground is a quirky and fun attraction. After the Great Seattle Fire of 1889, the city planners rebuilt the city literally on top of itself and the old structures still rest underneath and now serve as a popular tourist attraction. The city also offers a wide variety of museums and a top-notch aquarium. Of course, a trip to the top of the Space Needle shouldn't be missed.
If you wish to venture outside the city, there are plenty of options. A short ferry ride will take you across the sound to Bainbridge Island, where you'll find little cafes and shops. The ride itself is a big part of the fun. Excellent skiing is within an hour's drive, and in warmer months, trips to the mountains for hiking and picnics are popular. The Puget Sound has many interesting islands to visit, which can be accessed by an extensive ferry service.
Whether you choose to stick to the city or prefer an island vacation, or even a mix of both, you'll want a memorable place to stay. Here is a fun and romantic option to consider as your home base.
For those who choose to stay in the city, the Inn at Harbor Steps offers close access to all of Seattle's top attractions. This Seattle bed and breakfast is located in the arts and business district, just minutes from shops, restaurants, Pike Place Market and much more.
Many of the romantic guest rooms have a fireplace and a garden view. A few have a small balcony and whirlpool tub. The innkeepers at this Seattle inn offer all the amenities of a big hotel chain, but also include a full breakfast buffet and afternoon tea, as well as freshly baked cookies throughout the day. There is a concierge service and a fitness center with plenty of workout equipment, a basketball court and a lap pool.
