If you've never auditioned for a TV series, you're not likely going to replace Katherine Heigl on "Grey's Anatomy." If you're trained, but you're new to television, your next step could be to have a line or two on a show. That's garbage and not the answer they want to hear. There are many people I see, who give a good audition, but they aren't quite right for that part, but when another director asks me about people for their projects, I will usually recommend the actors that have given good auditions, auditions that show that they care about their careers. As your face keeps appearing in front of them, one day they think, "I've seen him somewhere before." You become familiar to them. You should already know how to express a wide range of emotion in your movement, voice, face, etc. Possibly more important than knowing what to wear to an audition is knowing what you should NOT wear. I don't mean that they are hiding their face completely, but some seem to think that turning away from the casting director to only show the side of their face is the most affective way to capture the attention of the audience. Beverly Stone has volunteered with a performing arts kids group for the past ten years. Once called, they will probably ask you to state your name and the agency that represents you. If you don't get a part this time, you will next time!. Get yourself in the mindset of your performance, whether that's a character or just "in the zone". It would be a shame to practice all year and then go into the talent audition cold. Although it may be a hot summer's day and they feel comfortable, it is not a good idea. And if a casting director has hired you, it's critical that you keep in touch with them. I have also noticed that there are artists performing in multiple talent categories, and sometimes a specific role calls for such a renaissance artist. Remember have fun and if you don't get the job this time, don't give up. Do not show immaturity and a faltering personality by acting like you don't care. Ballet, modern dance, jazz, tap and others all call for different dancewear. Basically, you have to be someone others can work with or no one will want to work with you...and they won't!. And yes, sometimes casting directors will call you directly for auditions. Q: Should one put a limit on how much one invests into an acting career?. It may take 100 auditions before you land a tiny role as 'girl with pencil'.
