Yorkshire is a wonderful place for a holiday, but most people don’t realise how much it has to offer. With the pound down and people trying to spend less money it is a good idea to look closer to home when you are planning your next holiday and Yorkshire may be just what you are looking for. North Yorkshire is perhaps most famous as the home to both the North York moors and a large part of the Yorkshire dales, both national parks. The two parks are without question beautiful areas and are well worth a visit, especially for lovers of the great outdoors. North Yorkshire also contains the popular seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough. The later is regarded as the oldest seaside resort in Britain and contains many fantastic building which charts its history as a seaside resort over hundreds of years. West Yorkshire is the most urban area of Yorkshire. It is home to the two largest cities in Yorkshire, Leeds and Bradford. Leeds is a must to visit, after years of regeneration the city is quickly establishing itself as one of the countries best city breaks. The city is also well known for its great shopping and has been dubbed the ‘Knightsbridge of the north’ because of it many great shops. The city has one a string of awards including, ‘best city outside of London’, ‘UK’s favourite city’ and ‘Visitor city of the year’. South Yorkshire boarders the Pennines on the west and is Yorkshires gateway to the Peak District. South Yorkshire always offers a warm welcome to those who visit. Sheffield is the principle city of the area and has many great things to see and do. The Millennium Galleries, which are four different world class galleries all under one roof and Europe’s largest greenhouse, the Winter Gardens which has trees and plants from across the world, are all a must see on any trip to the area. The city is also called the greenest city in Britain because is has 50 parks, 150 woodlands, cannel paths, nature trails and real countryside areas. The city of York is the principle city of the Eastern area of Yorkshire. The historic city of York is a must see destination for anyone who goes to Yorkshire. Taking a walk around the city you feel the history all around you and with many great museums and exhibitions, often using the very latest technology, you can learn all about the cities fascinating past and bring eras like the Vikings back to life. A trip to York Minster is also a must see. There is so much to see in East Yorkshire that you will be spoilt for choice.
