Tourism in Namibia

By: Roberto Bell

Namibia lies in the Southern part of Africa and on the Atlantic coast. It is famous for its safaris and tourists also love the Atlantic beaches. A fly-in safari will give tourists an unforgettable experience.

Tourism in Namibia is concentrated around the Etosha Park Safaris, coastal activity areas of Swakopmund, Walvis Bay and Sossosvlei. However, there are other places in the country where tourism activity is visible. The great eastern desert is a part of Namibian tourist destinations. Many tourists who visit the country are interested in trophy and safari hunting, learning the ancient art of bow hunting and also bird hunting.

The people of Namibia are helpful. They understand English and German. The Government of the country has done enough to promote tourism in Namibia but still lots need to be done. There are many good hotels, lodges and guest houses where tourists can stay. Tourists should opt for a guided safari tour to unravel the many mysteries of African Safari. The 4 X 4 Safari is an option that many tourist prefer. Self-driving through the vast Namibian landscape is done by many tourists. Some of the new sports that tourists are engaging in are Shark angling and Ballooning. Catamaran rides which start from the Walvis Bay is another attraction of Namibian Tourism. Here tourists get a chance to feed seals and meet with Pelicans. They can also enjoy their champagne on the ride.

Namibia tourism is now much more broad based than what it was decades before. Though Namibian Safaris are still the primary attraction, tourists are also getting on with adventure tourism and spending more time on the Atlantic beaches.
