Top things to do on a summer break in the Lake District

By: Ben Binding-27115

The only problem with taking a summer break in the Lake District is that you can't possible see everything that it has to offer. There are so many sites there that you'll have to narrow down the ones that you really want to see the most and go examine them, instead of trying to see everything and missing something really great – or moving through things so fast that you see everything and don't actually remember any of it because you didn't take the time to really look at where you were. Among the top options for your summer break in the Lake District are Ambleside and Coniston. They are both lovely towns purely from a nature standpoint, but they are also beautiful from an architectural and an aesthetic standpoint, as well. They have a lot to offer to anyone who goes there, and their museums are not to be missed.

Also on your list should be the Daffodils. They might not sound that exciting, but huge fields of them are amazingly beautiful, and there is a field of them in Rydal next to St. Mary's Church. It's called Dora's Field, and Wordsworth and his wife planted it to remember their daughter, Dora, when she passed away back in 1847. Rydal Mount was Wordsworth's home from 1813 until he died, and when you visit it you can see his garden and his study. Hawkshead is another great area that you don't want to miss, and it's one of the most beautiful villages in the Lake District.

In addition to those places there are many more villages and towns that you'll want to see. Wordsworth and his legacy have a big influence on the Lake District, as does Beatrix Potter, and the countryside is some of the most beautiful that you'll get the opportunity to look at. Whether you want to sightsee and do quiet and peaceful things, or whether you want to be more active, there are always choices for you and for anyone taking a holiday to the Lake District with you. Take your time and plan your summer break so that you won't miss out and you can see everything that you want to during the time you're there.
