Three Lessons for Managing Stress

By: Dawn McIntyre

Good stress is a combination of the excitement we feel for an upcoming event or situation in our lives as well the feeling of its polarity which, is anxiety. We usually flip-flop between the opposite ends this polarity without realizing that this is what is happening and unfortunately become stuck in inaction as result.

Stress Management Lesson Number One: When you are feeling anxious about a positive event or circumstance try to allow, your feelings to run down the polarity line to its opposite end where excitement exists. They feel very similar but we tend to be less intimidated by excitement. When you find your fears creeping in and a performance or event is involved, get you go out of your way by focusing on our audience and the service you are ultimately wanting to provide. This will keep you in a state of grace that when combined with excitement will result in amazing success.

Bad Stress is when we have crammed our schedules with so much to do that we don't have time to just be. Some of the more challenging stress events that we can create in our lives is getting married/divorced, building a home, losing/starting a job or business, suffering the loss of a loved one. It is recommended, if this is in your control, to minimize these events to no more than two per year. As far as our schedules go, both men and women alike, tend to create unrealistic "to do lists". The women do so because she has a job, a relationship, children and other commitments and does not know how say No to certain demands on her time and the men do so because they have difficult time just being.

Stress Management Lesson Number Two: Setting healthy boundaries. This applies to both men and women. Women need to learn to say NO more often and men need to learn that being is as essential to having it all as is doing. In order to set healthy boundaries it is important to do a life review and re-establish your values and priorities. What are you really trying to accomplish and what is the easiest way to do this. You can more easily accomplish that which you value and if your priorities are in alignment with your values the path to completing goals, projects and "to do lists" gets to be rather easy and stress free. Be willing to let go of unfinished projects that no longer serve you, the energy you free up from this one act will feel like a huge weight off shoulders.

Another type of stress we suffer from is more related to our health and well-being. Are you so busy, worried, and anxious that you can't sleep? Is the stress affecting your health? This can actually inadvertently add to more stress and it is vital that caring for yourself be your number one priority.

Stress Management Lesson Number Three: Be mindful of what you eat and drink, especially during your busier times. Incorporate some form of relaxation period into your day. Meditation is very helpful to healing our minds, emotions and bodies that I would recommend you pick one meditation practice and use it daily. It will add years to your life. Sleep! Is your bedroom a sanctuary that promotes a good night's sleep? Fend Shui is an excellent way to learn if your bedroom is set up for your greatest nights of sleep. It is different for everyone and I would recommend consulting with a Feng Shui expert on this. Another thing that you can do to promote a good nights rest is to make a list, or at least do a mental review, of all that transpired during your day that you are grateful for. What blessings were bestows upon you, even the smallest ones count here. This will serve to put your mind in a state of peace before going to sleep. Finally, as your soul to guide you, as you sleep, to answer any concerns or questions lingering in your mind from the day and go to sleep trusting that you will be shown.

We all have unique purposes in life and to the degree that we can manage stress, will be to the degree that we will experience beauty and magic in the process. And what's the point of working so hard to achieve our goals and fulfill our potential if we can't enjoy the process? I wish you a beautiful & magical process and a stress managed life.

In love and light,
Dawn
