When you go to Wales you certainly want to see everything that it has to offer, and some of the greatest things you can see there are the natural wonders that are available. One must-see while you're there is the tallest waterfall in Wales, Pistyll Rhaeadr. It's twelve miles west of Oswestry and just a few miles from Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant in Powys. There's plenty of parking for your car and you can explore the waterfall, eat at the cafe there, and even stay at the bed and breakfast near the foot of the waterfall. It's a site of scientific interest and one of the Seven Wonders of Wales, falling 240 feet in three stages. If waterfalls aren't really what you're looking for, or if you've seen it and would like to see more, there's also St. Winefride's Well, which is a holy well in Flintshire in North Wales. It's a pilgrimage site, and the oldest one that's still in operation in Great Britain today, beginning as a pilgrimage site in the seventh century. Some of the holy relics were destroyed but the well remains, and it's a popular tourist attraction. It's been supported by the Jesuits and was mentioned by name in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight – a famous medieval poem. The highest mountain in Wales is called Snowdon, and it's something else that you should take the time to see on your travels. It's in the Snowdonia National Park and has one of the wettest climates in all of Britain, averaging around one-hundred and eighty inches of rain every year. Due to climate change the amount of snow on the mountain every winter has been decreasing, but it's still a very beautiful sight to see. The first climb up the mountain that was recorded was in 1639, and since then many people have climbed it, including some who used it as a training ground for Mt. Everest. British rock climbers love it, but even if you don't plan to ascend it you can still gaze upon it and appreciate its natural beauty, which is what many travellers choose to do when they see its 1,085 metre elevation.
