Did you ever think about the origin of tattoos? Did you ever do any research on the topics? Amazingly enough, the art of tattoos and body art isn't a new thing, in fact it's actually been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians and even before that? There has actually been evidence that tattoos were used in the Bronze Age, and you will even find evidence that they have been used on mummies. Would you believe that an Iceman was found in the northern glaciers with tattoos all over him? Clearly this isn't a new thing, and by getting a tattoo you are supporting an age old tradition that dates back almost as far as civilization itself. Egyptians had an obsession with tattoos, and this is clear when you look at all of their history. One example, and perhaps the most significant, is the priestess Amunet who was in service to the goddess Hathor at Thebes. Amunet had tattoos of dotted lines that ran parallel with one another. No one knows precisely what these tattoos means, there are those who speculate that they may have been either sexual or associated with the paranormal in some way. Mayans were into tattoos as well. They have relics that are as old as 300 to 900 A.D attesting to this fact, and some of their examples are strange as they are beautiful. There have been many different remains dug up and they all show that men and women were into the art of tattooing. Full body tattoos seemed to be very popular, and they were even important in religion at that time. Captain James Cook is the one that came up with the word "tattoo", and he did so in the year 1769. He visited several different island throughout the pacific and nearly every island that he visited was into tattoos for different reasons. These reasons might have been cosmetic, or even tied to religious beliefs. The word tattoo comes from the Polynesian cultures. The entire thing was documented and recorded by Sir Joseph Banks and showed that he was the first man in the western world to be adorned with a tattoo as a sort of souvenir. The tattoo machine of today is a creation of Samuel O'Reilly, who actually commercialized the tattoo in the west for the first time, and worked in a barber shop that was called a "tattoo parlor". The World Wars saw the boom in the business of tattooing. Most people started considering some forms of tattooing as a psychic protection or even a remembrance and souvenir. Tattoo became a fashion in the mid 70s and now people became professional tattoo artists in larger numbers. Even the well known "Charles Darwin" has acknowledged tattooing as a part of many ancient cultures of the world. Tattoos are a thing that have been around since the beginning and it has also caused other types of body art all over the world.
