The New Forest On Bicycle

By: Ben Binding-27115

If you enjoy bicycling, there are many places where you can do it. The New Forest, England's newest National Park, is one of the best places to enjoy communing with nature and riding your bicycle through some of the most beautiful countryside.

The New Forest used to be a royal hunting area before it was converted into a national park in 2005. It covers 220 square miles of country and retains a lot of the original rights that belonged to the people who lived on the land long ago. There are a few towns and villages in it and the animals that belong to these people are allowed to wonder freely around.

Many of the country lanes throughout it are perfect for cycling, and there are also marked tracks for cyclists that total more than 100 miles, so there's no shortage of riding for people who enjoy taking longer trips. There are virtually no hills, so you don't have to be that strong of a rider to have a good time there.

Being in moderately good shape and having some experience with a bicycle is usually sufficient to give you a lot of enjoyment in New Forest. Be sure to take a mountain bike, though, because most of the trails are gravel and there is a lot of mud during rainy times like the winter.

If you don't have a bike, or if you don't have a mountain bike and don't feel comfortable on anything else, there are several places nearby where you can actually rent a bike for a day so you can enjoy the forest. On the south coast the New Forest meets the sea, too, so you can enjoy the ocean breezes and the sights and sounds that being near the water brings. You can also enjoy the lakes and rivers through the park and the beauty of the trees and the rest of nature through many, many miles of cycling trails.
