Devon is rightly famed for its beaches which attract huge numbers of people from across the country each year. Here are some of the most popular beaches Devon has to offer. Woolacombe The beach at the sea side village of Woolacombe in North Devon is one of the most popular beaches in the whole county. The beach has almost 3 miles of beautiful golden sand which is backed the rugged Baggy and Morte points and has views of Lundy Island. The beach has excellent facilities for surfing, sailing, wind surfing and canoeing. At the beach there is also a surf school so even if you have never picked up a board before the professionals will have you riding the waves in no time. Motorized craft such as speed boats and jet skies are banned to help make the water safer for others. The beach has life guards on hand during summer days and first aid is available. The beach even has its own lost child centre. The beach has disabled access. Dawlish Warren Dawlish Warren beach is a great family friendly beach. Dawlish Warren can be found just outside Teignbridge in South Devon and is near to Exeter. The beach is mainly made of sand and dunes with some shingle in places. A café, shop, amusements and food outlets can all be found at the beach to provide anything you might need during the day. Experienced life guards are on watch during the day and first aid is available. A lost child center can also be found at the beach. The beach has disabled access. Bigbury-on-Sea Bigbury-on-Sea in the South Hams has a large expanse golden sand with patches of shingle. The beach is backed by low cliffs and on one side can be found the River Avon estuary. First aid and life guards are on hand during the summer months. There are disabled visitors facilities and disabled access to the beach. At low tide it is possible to walk to Burgh Island which is just 200 yards from the shore. The Islands most famous landmark is the hotel which has played host too many famous faces over the years. Most well know resident was perhaps Agatha Christie who wrote many of the famous works at the hotel. Other famous visitors include the Beatles, Noel Coward, Edward and Mrs. Simpson and even Winston Churchill and President Eisenhower in the days before the D-Day landings. Goodrington Sands Goodrington Sands in Paignton is a long golden sandy beach. The beach is surrounded by attractive scenery and park land. The beach is also surrounded by many amenities and amusements including Quaywest Water Park. At low tide there are great rock pools to explore which will fascinate people of all ages. Why not call in the Seashore centre to find out more about marine life and what to look out for in the rock pools. If for any reason you want to try another beach then you are lucky enough to be surrounded by a number of great beaches in Paignton. Paignton beach and pier is just a short stroll up the road while a number of smaller yet equally good beaches are just minuets away from you.
