The Benefits of a Diverse Marketing Knowledge

How many different forms of marketing are there for you to choose from?

I’m not going to list them all, nor do I think I could list them all. I strongly doubt I know about them all, and I think I have a rather decent pool of knowledge to call upon in this particular area.

Now for the shocker: if you don’t know about a certain form of marketing you can’t really make use of it, now can you?

This alone should be enough to get people to look into every type of marketing they can, but many don’t see it this way. The main reason is because they find a few forms of marketing that work and decide to stick with them. They’re able to get enough sales to stay afloat, so why bother with anything else?

There’s a difference between marketing that gets the job done, and marketing that does the job as effectively as possible.

Consider for the sake of argument a comparison between greeting card printing and postcards. Now, both are sent through the mail to a specific list of customers, and both are going to be relatively similar in terms of the money it will take to design and print them.

Greeting card printing is meant specifically to introduce yourself to new customers. This is the primary purpose, and I find it hard to find other situations where these will be particularly useful, but they are very nice if you want to get new customers.

You can send postcards to new customers in order to encourage them to come in. This is a possibility, and many companies do it all the time. But are those postcards going to be as effective as a form of marketing that was specifically designed to target new customers? No, it won’t be able to completely match up. If you were using both forms of marketing you could start out by sending greeting cards and then move on to sending those same people postcards instead.

You already have the mailing list made so it wouldn’t be a difficult transition.

This is only going to happen if you know about greeting cards in order to get them. You won’t be spending any additional money to have greeting cards made and you’ll be able to have a more focused, effective first marketing push.

This is the strength of a diverse field of marketing knowledge. Try to read up on all of the different forms of marketing that you can. You never know when you’re going to need one of them, and you can’t really benefit from something you don’t know anything about. All it takes is a little research to help make sure that you’re always using the best kind of marketing to get the job done.
