The Benefits Of Multi Trip Travel Insurance

By: Andrew Regan

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office advises all travellers to purchase comprehensive travel insurance before they fly or sail abroad - even to European Union countries, in case any disaster befalls them or they become a victim of criminal activity. It is best not to think of such outcomes, but having travel insurance in place allows for peace of mind that you are covered should the worst happen.

However, a staggering one in four UK citizens travel without purchasing any travel insurance and will be facing potentially huge medical bills if they became seriously injured in an accident abroad. Additionally, if possessions were stolen or damaged on holiday they would have to replaced from the traveller’s own funds, or written off. Thankfully though at least 75 percent of the UK population appreciate the need for adequate cover before travelling abroad, but the way in which you are able to purchase travel insurance has altered dramatically over the last decade.

UK travellers used to purchase travel insurance on a one-off or single trip insurance basis - taking it out at the time of booking their trip abroad, often from the travel package company and also without shopping around to see if they could get a better deal. However, these days UK travellers are much savvier and almost seven out of ten buy multi trip travel insurance policies to cover them all year round. Additionally, the vast majority will now also take their time to carefully consider if they are getting the best deal with their policy and premium combination.

For regular travellers and even in some cases for those that intend making just one trip a year, buying multi trip travel insurance could save quite a few pounds. Most policies offer cover for unlimited trips of up to 90 days in duration, and will save potentially a large substantial amount over a series of single-trip travel policies taken out.

What's more, annual multi-trip travel policies can typically cover up to ten people on one policy and they do not need to be related; therefore, a group of friends can also take out such a policy. For example, if five couples were booking the same holiday then they could save quite a bit on their travel insurance by taking out one multi trip policy, rather than paying the one-off premium for insurance five times.

Regardless of whether you opt for multi trip travel insurance or take out single trip policies each time you travel, you should always make sure that you consider what is best for your personal needs before leaving the country. That way you can have peace of mind whilst on your travels, ensuring you make the most of your trip away.
