Strategic Planning System: What Does It Entail?

Strategic planning system takes cognizance of different variables which include the market analysis, the areas of strength as well as weaknesses of the Organization or business concern, the available resources, the business’s products and/service and also the organization’s objectives and goals, The driving force or nucleus that gives direction on how to structure a set of strategies and plans of action, is the “system”. The system of strategic planning also ensure that the sets of strategies and action plan that have been developed, are organized suitably to increase the opportunities at the disposal of the Organization in realizing a profitable and sustainable achievement at the long run.

There are simple components of strategic planning system at its fundamental level. These components or at least one of them must be part of the Organization’s strategy; this is necessary for the Organization to ensure that its objectives and the overall success of the business are achieved at the end. The four basic components of the system strategy include;

•Determining the future course of the Organization

•Knowing how to channel the resources and strengths of the Organization

•Structuring the methodologies to be used

•Devising parameters for the inevitable

A well structured strategic planning system will incorporate the following activities; strategic analysis, structuring strategic path or direction and devising specific action to be taken to combat an unfavorable present situation and also to tap into the available opportunities at the disposal of the Organization. When analyzing strategically, the Organization should take a review of its operating environment both in the short term and also on a continuous basis. You also set strategic direction on how to go about the Organization’s current situation and the possible opportunities; this will include what the business would want to achieve at the end, the methodology to be used in measuring progress and also the means of achieving the set goals.

In strategic planning system, the organization strategically structure how the set goals can be realized; each goal is accompanied with the methodologies and the means of bringing it to reality. This would also include specification and assigning of responsibilities and time frame for the realization of each Organization’s objective. As mentioned earlier, there should also be means of putting checks and evaluating progress.

Handling an eventuality is also an aspect of the planning system that should be put in place; the Organization should structure reserves that would serve as tool for combating any unforeseen or unexpected occurrence; the reserves could be time-framed.

A good planning system presents concentration, accountability and realistic requirements. The way to realize success in business is to consciously structure and plan every aspect of the business, using the planning system and its components. In all, strategic planning is the driving force and a requisite tool for the outstanding success of the Organization. However, adopting the best strategic planning approaches is what will guarantee the realization of outstanding success. The best approach refers to the approach that is best suited to the peculiarity of an Organization.
