Split Your Seems: Funny Ecards

By: Herbert Reich

Ecards are electronic greeting cards. Ecards are typically pictures or images accompanied by personalized messages and they are sent via emails. Ecards are more versatile compared to traditional paper cards, since they are digital contents and can be sent to many recipients at the same time. They can be personalized in various ways and can be saved in the computer or other media storage devices such as compact discs or flash drives. Ecards are more environmental friendly compared to traditional cards, since paper is not used when creating or sending ecards.
The history of ecards started way back when the Internet started. E-Cards.com started ecard greetings that feature nature and wildlife photos in 1995. Then in February 1996, ecard greetings were popular, particularly Valentine's Day ecards offered by Infobahn.com and Sony Entertainment. Ecards continued to be very popular in the late 90s and early millennium, and proved to be a lucrative e-business. BlueMountain.com is still one of the largest website that offers free ecards. Most ecards were free and they still are popular until today. However, certain ecards websites offer premium ecards for their paid members, while some other ecards websites allow their members to send ecards for an annual or monthly membership fee.
Postcards are how e-cards started; this was by using still images. Special personal greeting messages were added to the images. Then an evolution into flash animation occurred for e-cards. 2D vector animation is what flash animation is based on. Flash animation is more like the style used in cartoons; this also can be realistic or advanced in nature. E-cards containing flash animation usually also consist of a soundtrack, with music, audio sounds, or speech. One example is a Christmas e-card that plays some Christmas music. Flash animation also allows the e-card to be interactive such as the recipient having to click on a wrapped package to uncover the message or greeting. One of the most common formats today for e-cards is flash animation.
Video e-cards have become another form of e-cards. Through video and text combined these video cards are able to convey a greeting messages for the recipient. The video e-cards require more production time, people as actors and a budget. A cheaper and simpler way to method for sending e-cards is utilizing your cell phone to send mobile e-cards. Cell phone users first need to download the e-cards to the phones via WAP through their networks. Then these e-cards can be sent to the other users of the cell phones through MMS. Mgreetings, which is a Dutch company, created mobile e-cards in 2003. The users of mobile phones will have to check if they have to pay for the e-cards it just depends on the provider of the mobile service.
These e-cards are usually sent to mark or celebrate a variety of occasions. Some of the more popular occasions are weddings, Christmas, birthdays, Mother's Day, friendship, Valentine's Day, and so on. Many sites also offer several funny and humorous e-cards. These humorous or funny e-cards usually use animated characters and add to them funny sounds along with your personalized messages. Funny e-cards have been designed for everyone and all occasions, for example, humorous political, office jokes, even funny Christmas greeting e-cards. Along with e-cards being great everyone, any occasion, or at anytime, they are also friendly to the environment.
