So Then My Dentist Said "Have You Considered A Sonicare Brush?"

By: Fran Spanner

Taking good care of your teeth is important. It can be as easy as good flossing, regular brushing and biannual trips to the dentist. But if you're brushing "the old fashioned way," you may be missing out.

However, if you've already got healthy teeth and gums, and just want to make sure they stay that way... and maybe look a little brighter while you're at it, then make sure you're taking your dentists advice about how to care for your teeth properly at home. A lot of us "know" what to do, but don't always do it!

First, we all know that taking care of your smile is taking care of your health. With neglect, you could develop serious health and medical problems including tooth decay, receding gums, periodontitis, and a number of other scary sounding conditions.

My dentist recommends brushing twice a day and flossing once a day. I was doing that, but I wanted to do even more, as my teeth weren't as white as I wanted. My dentist suggested Sonic Care toothbrushes. You may have seen these in your dentist office yourself.

While you're there at the dentist, they also make you go through that fun little procedure called scraping, which sounds excruciating, although there's really not much to feel since they're scraping hard teeth with no nerves.

Plaque removal is a necessary and important part of your dental cleaning, though... that's why the dental hygienist makes the big bucks!

Removing plaque is something that can be done only at the dentist. You can't really remove it yourself once it's formed. That's one of the great things about brushing with Sonicare brushes. They don't allow as much plaque to build up, and therefore, you won't have to sit through as much scraping when you're at your next dental exam.

The flip side, is that the better you are able to care for your teeth, the less likely you are to incur these unnecessary health risks.

Since I didn't enjoy that scaling-scraping from the dental hygienist, I asked my dentist if I should pick up an electric toothbrush at the store. He said "Yes! But not just any old electric toothbrush." He recommended a Sonicare brush. Sonicare toothbrushes use a super-fast vibrating head to brush away plaque, and they emit a pulsing sound wave that helps break up and loosen the plaque.

It's a powerful combination. My teeth were definitely cleaner on my next visit. They felt cleaner, too. Even better than looking good, I know they're staying healthy.
