Save on your car insurance

By: Dukeshier

When choosing your car insurance presumably price is a key factor, but what else do you look for? How reliable do you find price comparison websites? Do you switch regularly or stay with one company that you are content with?

Apparently, 77% of us shop around for insurance before committing to one company. In fact, 45% of the nation usually gets quotes from three insurers before committing to one policy to suit our needs.

We get our information from TV adverts, friends and family, direct mail and price comparison websites. But which is best? According to the British Insurance Brokers' Association, more of us are moving away from price comparison sites and opting to go direct because we feel these kind of sites are misleading and inaccurate.

According to the BIB's Association, price comparison sites focus too heavily on price and not on value for money and instead we should buy a policy dependent on what exactly it offers in the event of an accident. This includes are medical cover, a courtesy car and a wide range of garages to visit for repairs.

None of us want to pay insurance, but sadly car insurance is a legal requirement of a driver's life. However, at the moment, none of us can afford to be frivolous with our money so choosing the right insurance is now even more important.

We now seem to be moving away from regularly switch insurance companies to benefit from new customer offers. In fact, we are staying put because the no-claims discounts now on offer make it worthwhile to stay loyal to one insurer.

No-claims discounts can be up to 75% after five years of loyal business and of course no claims. The effect this can have on an insurance premium is obviously of great significance. So much so, that over a third of the British car driving population is avoiding making claims on their insurance just so they can qualify for the greatest discounts.

The result is fewer people are claiming on their insurance. Over one third of the British car driving population avoids making a claim so they can qualify for the most impressive discounts.

This can only have a good effect if it means people are driving more safely, however, if all it means is people are paying for the accidents themselves then it makes an insurance policy seem rather superfluous.
