Rushing Rivers Institute is a Non-Profit environmental group created to conserve the streams and rivers of our Earth for human and nature alike. R.R.I. Stands out from other organizations based on the nature of which we do our work. We combine years of knowledge in both ecological and physical fields to blaze new trails of water conservation. Rushing Rivers believes water is everyone's issue, both humans and animals alike. Unfortunately, the dire situation of rivers is a consequence of human behavior. Overfishing, dams and the overuse of water has led the aquatic world into a grim situation. R.R.I. offers many solutions to the surrounding area and towns, as well as regionally. Our staff of river scientists are well versed in Instream flow studies, fish and invertebrate habitat assessment, watershed and local scale river restoration planning, ecological feasibility studies of dam removal, nature-like fishway design and surveying the future impact of climate change. Rushing Rivers team members have also created the MesoHABSIM model. This evolution of the PHABSIM model makes for quick assessment of fish communities in long stretches of rivers. With this technology, models are constructed for future planning and projects. Rushing Rivers is also offers training sessions on the implementation and use of this fascinating new technology. Both students and teachers will leave our introductory sessions as well as the week long intermediate courses with the knowledge and ability to use this system proficiently and applicably. It is crucial to have public awareness, not only the world's water, but of Rushing Rivers' plans and goals. R.R.I. very heavily promotes education and community involvement that starts at the town level and eventually makes its way to a global scale. This philosophy leads Rushing Rivers to reach out to the community and inspire recreational events focused on teaching our fellow citizens. Recently in May of 2008, a Fort River Canoe Trip was sponsored where appreciation was inspired for the area's waterways and the participants learned of its threats at the same time. The biggest threat facing our world and especially our water is the global warming. Accordingly, Rivers Climate Action was implemented to thwart this ever-growing phenomenon. Through our comprehensive, scientific work on rivers, coupled with our community activism, we hope to promote awareness and solutions to this problem. Please take the time to visit the Rushing Rivers or River Climate Action websites to educate yourself further on our services and goals. Don't forget to tell your friends and colleagues; we are a small, focused organization and always appreciate any word-of-mouth communication.
