Painting Your House with Your Chiropractor

By: Bruce Jerk

Who would have thought that your chiropractor has helpful advice for painting enthusiasts? Painting your house with your chiropractor does not imply that she or he will visit you next Saturday with a paintbrush in hand and ready to do some work. Instead, it simply underlines the fact that springtime brings the notion of spring cleaning, makes the flaking paint around your shutters stand out, and seems to increase the amount of bother that the peeling paint on your living room ceiling causes you. Suddenly you notice the ill-done paintjobs of years past, and you vow to make things right this spring. Chiropractors know about spring fever, but they warn that this is also the prime season to injure yourself with the most innocent activities, especially if you are not prepared physically to undertake activities and chores that your body is not accustomed to and conditioned to do.

There is more to painting even a square room than just the up and down motion of the brush and the gradual movement down the room. There is the twisting to reach that far off spot that is just a bit higher than the ladder will reach, the bending to get the paintbrush into the crevices between the floor and the and the corner, the reaching for the overhead painting, and a host of other activities that spell trouble in the world of a chiropractor.

Promoting wellness through chiropractic care now involves not only treating the patient but also keeping the other members of the team informed as to progress made, assessments found, and changes in general health or complaints the patient may have. Conversely, if a chiropractor is chosen as a primary care physician by a patient, this will involve long hours pouring over charts and reviewing information sent over to the office by other physicians.

If your back hurts to such an extreme that it interferes with your quality of life, contact your doctor and ask about undergoing chiropractic treatment. Generally speaking, chiropractic adjustments are a safe procedure during pregnancy, but just like with anything else, you will want to run it by your doctor first. When you do get your doctor's okay, make sure that you contact your chiropractor to find out if she or he has experience treating pregnant patients. Choose a care provider who has experience in this area!

Thus, a chiropractor promotes wellness not just through treatment of the individual patient, but also through education of the patient and the idea of involving her or him in the process that will lead to wellness. For some the latter might be a new experience, especially if thus far they have only been on the receiving end of shots and pills, rather than actual holistic care.
