When it comes to buying Christmas gifts making sure you give everyone what they want, or at least will find useful is perhaps the real challenge of Christmas. So, if you are stuck for gift ideas this year why not consider giving those who drive presents related to motoring? The cost of running and maintaining a vehicle has leapt by nearly 15% over the past 12 months, so anyone with a car would definitely benefit from a motoring-related Christmas present. A car-related present could be the ideal gift for a young relative who is struggling to pay for their motoring; perhaps someone recently unemployed who needs their car to get around and look for work, or even an elderly relative who relies on their vehicle to maintain the social interaction with their friends that they so desperately need. They and many more besides are perfect candidates for a motoring gift. From the extravagant, such as a complete set of new tyres to a more modest gift of a replacement interior mirror, all are suitable as Christmas presents to relatives or friends, although definitely not for close loved ones! Beware of giving such gifts to your nearest and dearest unless they specifically request them or it all could end up in tears and acrimony! Most car owners will have something they want to replace or enhance in their vehicle. In-car entertainment is a prime example. Radio/CD players are now being superseded by Radio/CD/MP3 players that allow owners of iPods and other MP3 players to play their music in-car effortlessly, simply by plugging in their device. Although this type of player is being provided as standard in most vehicles nowadays, any car over three years old will be ripe for an upgrade. Alternatively, there is also a conversion kit available that costs significantly less than a new unit but more or less achieves the same results. Alternatively you could consider a financial contribution to a relative’s motoring cost. If someone close has confided in you that they are struggling with the cost of motoring, why not make a monetary contribution to help with their annual Vehicle Excise Duty or car insurance costs? You could get an idea about how much they are paying in annual premium by performing a car online insurance quote, using their age and driving experience. That will at least give you an indication of how much it would cost them. Their car tax or Vehicle Excise Duty is easy enough to find out as it is related to their car CO2 emissions and can be looked up on the DVLA website. Then the only decision is by how much you can afford to help them. But, whatever you give you can be sure that it will be gratefully received, which after all is what Christmas is all about!
