Textiles can be used to transform any aspect of your home, from the floors, to the walls, to the windows, to the furniture itself. If you're tired of a particular room or space within your home, then here are a few ways in which you could consider using textiles to give it a new lease of life. Framing the windows, and therefore the only source of natural light in your home, are the curtains, which will greatly affect how light each room will feel. Dark colours can be oppressive and its easy to tire of patterns so tread carefully. However, changing your curtains will give a room an instant lift without breaking the bank. If it is your lounge or living room that you would most like to alter, then you could consider changing the fabric coverings on your sofas and chairs. It will feel like you've bought a whole new suite, but at only a fraction of the cost. An even cheaper method of achieving a similar living room makeover is to buy new throws and cushions for your sofas and chairs. These are available very cheaply from a range of soft furnishing shops, and you can pick and choose your colours to match your tastes exactly. If you like to make bold artistic statements in your home then you could use textiles for this too. I wall hanging will make a striking focal point in any living space, be it dining room, bedroom or sitting room. If you have quite cold, plain floors ? either wooden or tiled ? you might like to add more warmth into a room by choosing one of the many different kinds of modern rugs available on today's textile market. Iif you don't see anything you like in the shops, you could always have a go at creating your own textiles for use around your home. A patchwork throw, for example, is simple to make and striking to look at and could even be made from old snippets of fabric from unwanted clothing or old curtains. If you're still looking for ideas, then take a look on the world wide web at a few interior design websites and you're sure to find inspiration.
