Make the Most of your Time in Dubai

As a tourist destination, Dubai has grown rapidly in popularity over the last few years - this is largely due to being able to offer tourists a relaxing holiday in a beautiful subtropical desert paradise. With so many things to do in Dubai, it can be difficult to know which are most deserving of your attention.

Top of the list for attractions in Dubai should be the markets of the gold souk. Of all the markets in Dubai, the gold souk is probably the most popular with tourists. Located in the eastern section of Dubai in the Deoria district, Dubai's gold souk is home to over 300 retailers. Estimates suggest that around ten tons of gold are present at any given time when the souk is in operation.

Offering every kind of jewellery from bracelets and rings to necklaces and pendants, the gold souk has become one of the most popular jewellery shopping destinations in the world. Having earned Dubai the City of Gold nickname, Dubai's gold souk is an attraction not to be missed.

Designed to look like the sail of an Arabian dhow vessel, the Burj Al Arab is one of the most famous structures in Dubai. Rising up to 321 metres in height, the Burj Al Arab is one of the tallest buildings in all of Dubai. The Burj Al Arab is located on an artificial island off Jumeirah beach and the two are connected only via a small, curved bridge. In many ways, the Burj Al Arab has become a postcard depiction of the city in the same way as the Eiffel Tower represents Paris or The Golden Gate represents San Francisco.

Moving far away from the glitz and glamour of Dubai, desert sports are one of the area's most popular attractions. Among the most popular of these desert activities is camel trekking. Popular with both tourists and locals alike, camel trekking gives you the opportunity to discover the beauty of the desert from the comfort of a camel's back.

If camel trekking doesn't give you enough of a rush, why not try desert skiing? Desert skiing is a sport that is rapidly growing in popularity in Dubai. Using the same techniques as snow skiing, desert skiing simply involves skiing down the large sand dunes of the Arabian Desert.

Of course, if this just doesn't seem right, there is the option of snow skiing in Dubai; however, this is artificial snow. Dubai boasts the first artificial ski centre in the whole of the Middle East; although ironic given its surroundings, the centre has rapidly grown in popularity with tourists visiting Dubai. As the largest indoor ski park in the world, a day's skiing is an attraction not to be missed in Dubai.

From gold markets to desert skiing, Dubai has something to offer everyone. With European flights to Dubai lasting only around five hours, and the prospect of a warm, unique holiday within reach, it's easy to see why Dubai has grown in popularity.
