Life At The Call Center

Young people have looked at a career at the call center with different points of view. Some see it as the place where you go when you have nothing else to do. Some see BPO firms as the last career option. That scenario has changed considerably in the last couple of years. As the business process outsourcing industry spread out its arms and expanded its horizons, the young people took a serious and active interest in pursuing a career at the call center. With the BPO sector still looking set to tide to tide over the recession smoothly, young minds are drawn to it than never before.

But it is not a walk in the park. Call center life is not something that comes easy to many people who join up. They quit quickly, not able to handle the pressure or the challenges of the job. Contact center shifts are irregular and there are major chunks that are night shifts. Working at night shifts does a lot of effect on your body and mind. Your biological clock goes for a toss and you may have other health issues like indigestion. Mentally too, it is quite taxing to stay up nights and work. There’s additional stress and you are more likely to have related psychological disorders.

On the social lever, life at the call center is strewn with inconveniences. With your shift timings fluctuating frequently, you may lose touch with your family member and friends. You will find yourself working when the others have gone to bed. Similarly, when you are having a leisure time, your friends are at the office. So you hardly get any time to hang out with your friends. Moreover, working as a call center executive means you take tons of calls at office. You will hate the fact of calling someone after you leave your workstation.

There are the upsides of life at the call center as well. You work in a challenging environment with colleagues who are dedicated and focused. There is positive peer pressure. You get to learn marketing skills that will be with you all your life. You learn to handle phone calls while working in the contact center. Life at the BPO will teach you a lot about professionalism and take you through the steps to make you an efficient and effective salesperson. You will learn the ropes of dealing with customers, even when they are in an animated state. Work at the business process outsourcing center is done in a challenging manner. You have to have it in you to fight it out and perform. Contrary to popular myth, working at a call center is not walking in anytime of the hour and walking out with a fat pay check.
