Kettlebells for Power Lifting Cross Training

The sport of power lifting takes a lot of weight training and exercise. Most programs involve cross training rather than just focusing on isolation exercises. In recent years, the use of kettlebells for cross training has been increasing in popularity. Kettlebells originated from Russia. These traditional Russian cast iron weights, girya in Russia, are cannonball shaped weights with handles that were introduced in the United States as exercise tool. Coach Pavel Tsatsouline and World Champion Valery Fedorenko were responsible for introducing such tools in the feld of weight training.

Kettlebell cross training for power lifting has grown more popular because of the wonderful compound movements and full-body integrated movements that allow for proper strength and flexibility development. The combination of exercises that can be done using kettlebells are effective in working the entire body in a combination of strength and cardiovascular exercises. Hands will likewise develop steel grips necessary in powerlifting as they get trained in holding on to the kettlebell handles while doing snatches, jerks, and cleans. These competitors are scored by a panel of judges and whoever garners the most number of points is declared the winner. These workouts increase one’s strength, endurance, agility, and balance. The total workout that one gets from lifting kettlebells make it increasingly popular among fitness enthusiasts of all ages from all walks of life despite the initial muscular pain that is experienced by those who do particular kettlebell exercises. These muscular pains, while seemingly inconvenient, actually serve a purpose in sharpening mental focus and in heightening muscular reaction.
