How to Dress Your Windows in Style

By: Andrew Regan

Do you have a new look in mind for a room in your home? If you do, you’re probably choosing paint colours and wallpaper right now. And whilst these are some of the most important decisions that need to be made, they aren’t the only ones - deciding how you will finish off your windows is just as important. If you get it wrong the whole room can look off balance, but get it right and you’ll attract compliments from everyone who walks in.

As such, a good place to start with window blinds is their colour. Indeed, the overall tone and feel of your room can guide you towards making the right choices when it comes to dressing the windows. For example, if you are looking for a light and airy feel to a lounge area, you won’t want big heavy curtains - they will stifle the room and feel at odds with the look you are trying to create.

Light pleated blinds might be just what you need here; therefore, try cream or another light shade that will blend in with the surroundings. For an extra touch of luxury and relaxation you could even opt for motorised blinds.

Of course, not every room will need to have a relaxed and cosy feel to it. Think about a home office, for example. This is a room where you will need to get work done, so it needs to be neat and tidy but if it’s too relaxing then you might just nod off in front of your computer. In such locations you can afford to be a little starker in your choices; metal blinds are perfect in this situation. In some cases, many people would use their home offices late into the night, and metal blinds can provide that extra bit of privacy.

If you need a bit of light during the day, it’s still perfectly possible with metal blinds. What's more, metal blinds fit in well in an environment that is likely to feature a lot of computer equipment. As you can see from this example, it’s nice to let light into your newly decorated room during the day. But it’s good to know that when it gets dark you can let the blind down to provide a sense of security, as well as warmth and comfort.

Another option that looks good in many different styles of room is a wooden blind. If you have already introduced elements of wood and natural shades into your decor, this would be the perfect choice.

In the end, window blinds give you plenty of options for finishing your decorating efforts. From pleated to Venetian and coloured to natural, you won’t fall short of finding the choices you need.
