If you're selling your house or simply feel like a bit of a change, there's no need to spend a fortune. There are plenty of quick and easy ways to get your house looking attractive without splashing out on a complete design overhaul. A coat of paint: If the walls of your home have seen better days, then a lick of paint could transform your living space. Painting is just about the easiest form of DIY ? and probably the one that can make most difference to a dull room. Choose a colour that both appeals to you and one that suits the room that it's going to grace. Mood lighting: One of the most effective ways to improve the feel of a living environment is to light it properly. If your current lighting arrangement leaves a lot to be desired, an overhaul may be in order. You don't have to call in the electrician or the interior designer ? simply invest in a few lamps and shades to transform the look of your house. A new rug: Ugly floors can bring down both the appeal and the value of a house, but re-carpeting can be extremely expensive. Instead, consider investing in an attractive budget rug to cover the offending area. Hang some pictures: Bring your personality to your home by covering your walls with pictures, hangings or maps ? anything that brings a bit of colour to the place and says something about you. Family photographs, children's drawings and favourite prints can all help to create a more ambient atmosphere. Get your ornamentation right: Attractive ornaments can do wonders for a room, but it is possible to have too much of a good thing. If your surfaces are crammed with bits and pieces then it could be time to de-clutter. If you're short of cash then selling a few of your horded items could help out your wallet, as well as improving the look of your house. A good clean: It may sound obvious, but there really is no better way to transform the look and feel of your home than by giving it a good spring cleaning. Having a sort out, throwing away items you don't need and giving everything a good scrub will have it all looking ship-shape in no time. Remember the outside: Don't forget that your garden or drive is the first thing that any visitor will see ? and first impressions are vitally important. Make them want to come inside by getting rid of any stray weeds, stocking your flowerbeds well and, finally, giving the front door a good lick of colourful paint.
