Famous for its breathtaking lakefront, majestic Jet d’Eau – the tallest water fountain in the world – and its renowned flower clock, the Swiss city of Geneva has a lot to offer the visitor. Regardless of when you decide to travel there, there are a range of activities to excite the senses and stimulate the mind.

From its wealth of cultural attractions - including numerous museums, cathedrals and castles - to its stunning scenery and fascinating historical heritage, there is something to keep even the most impatient person on their toes. However, with the huge variety on offer, one of the best ways to soak up the city’s sights is to explore its many parks.

Indeed, with the collection on offer, they are the perfect way to see Geneva in all its glory. The Botanical Gardens is a great place to start, and lie just below the prominent United Nations building. Stretching across 28 hectares and situated on the edge of the city, the gardens are ideal for taking some time out to learn about all things green.

Housing a staggering collection of around 16,000 different plant species from across the globe, there is also an arboretum, a rock garden, greenhouses and an animal park to discover. And, after you have indulged your senses, it is then possible to walk along the beautiful shores of the lake, to the small harbour of Port Noir.

It is also worth heading to Bastions Park, which was originally the city’s first botanical garden. However, in addition to the huge variety of plant life on offer, it is possible to stroll along the many shady walkways, taking in the sights of the monuments, fountains and statues scattered around.

There is also a life-size chess board for those who like to take on a challenge! In addition to the University of Geneva and the city’s Town Hall, the famous Reformation Wall can also be found here, which is a truly noteworthy attraction to visit.

The Perle-du-Lac is another park not to be missed. Home to one of the best views of Lake Geneva, as well as the site of the History of Science Museum, it is a great place to spend the day. As well as the highly decorated thermal baths, there are an abundance of exquisite trees, flowers and greenery to delight the senses.

In addition to its natural charm, Geneva has been found to have the second highest quality of life, meaning you can look forward to a trip full of fun and health. With the range of flights to Geneva available to help kick-start your break, as well as the choice of superb accommodation and fine cuisine, you will be spoilt for choice from visiting this fascinating city.
