While some people go to and from work on the train and stay in an office all day, others have a very different working life. For example, there are lots of sales people and reps whose job it is to drive round and visit their clients each day. If you fall into this category you will know how tiring it can be to do so - this is particularly true if you are driving long distances all the time. As such it is very important to make sure your car is well equipped to make these journeys safely. Indeed, you should of course ensure you have proper breakdown cover - the more you drive your car, the more likely it is that something could eventually go wrong with it. And even if that problem is relatively minor, you can be sure that it will be inconvenient at the time. It’s essential to have a proper first aid kit in the boot of your car as well. Basic items such as bandages, plasters and antiseptic wipes really do come in handy, and they might help someone else in need as well as you. Regular breaks are also an extremely good idea – and essential if you are going to be driving for more than an hour. But don’t rely on the time; if you feel tired or you think your concentration might be even slightly impaired, stop as soon as you can. It’s amazing what a breath of fresh air and a cool drink of water can do to refresh you and prepare you for driving again. It may be a requirement that you need to stay away from home on occasion too, depending on how far afield you are expected to travel. In this case, make sure you sleep well the night before you travel, and once again before you head back home. If there is someone else in the car with you who is under the same insurance policy then it can work well to take it in turns to drive. Before you embark on any trip, it is essential to make sure all your documents are in order. For example, your standard insurance won’t cover you for driving a business vehicle; therefore, ensure you have the necessary business car insurance in place, so you will be covered for any mishaps that may occur. What's more, it should also be valid for the length of time you will be away. As you can see it does pay to make sure you are prepared for driving more often for business purposes. Be sure you don’t get complacent about driving either - as someone who drives as part of your job then this can increase the possibility of being involved in an accident than someone who doesn’t drive for a living. A little extra care can really go a long way.
