Do you need Enlarged prostate treatment ? Read….

By: Heinz Golz

The first question that you need to ask yourself while it comes to enlarged prostate treatment , is whether or not you should take care of the situatuion at all.
Once the condition has been examined and identified by your doctor ( an important step to make certain that the symptoms that you are experiencing are due to an enlarged prostate and not something else), you need to make up your mind whether or not the condition is annoying you. If it is not, then for many men, the solution is not to take care of it at all but simply to let your doctor test the condition for you every few months.
If, however, you are bothered by the symptoms, or your doctor feels that there is a chance of developing complications, from the problem, then enlarged prostate treatment should be sought.
The first line of defense will be medicine treatment . There are a number of drugs now in use and others under active testing and development. On the whole , drug treatment will not make well the condition but it can give a relief from the symptoms of an enlarged prostate. You have to talk about medicine treatment with your doctor .Many patients in this age group , for which an enlarged prostate is common , will anyway be on medicine treatment for other diseases. Your doctor will also talk about the range of side effects which enlarged prostate treatment drugs carry with them.
If you do not feel fit for medicine treatment (or you doctor does not feel that medicine treatment will be successful in your case) then the next step is to think about minimally invasive operation. There are a choice of operations on hand today , some of which can be undertaken on a day-patient basis , and some which will need a few days in hospital. In usually minimally invasive surgery is planned to shrink the prostate gland or to remove prostate tissue from the area around the urethra and thus ease constriction on the urethra and restore the stream of urine from the bladder.
If these forms of treatment are not proper, or have been tried and proved ineffective, then enlarged prostate treatment will be a operation. Two commonly performed operations are the TURP and TUIP both of which can be carried out laparoscopically or using machine equipment and require to stay in hospital between 2 and 3 days. In other cases, especially where the prostate is remarkably enlarged, conventuionalopen operation may be used with hospitalization typically lasting about a a couple of days- at least a week.
