We all know that it is important for our health to make sure we maintain a healthy weight. But, while it’s okay to overindulge every now and again – on your birthday for instance, or at Christmas – if you do it all the time you will certainly end up putting on weight sooner or later! The key to losing weight or keeping the slim figure you have now lies in eating a balanced diet. We know that too much fat isn’t going to be good for us in the long term, but planning a healthy diet is about so much more than just cutting down on fat. For example, eating plenty of fibre is a good place to start. Not only does this keep you regular but it also keeps you feeling full up for longer. And you will usually find that introducing fibre into your diet can be done rather easily. Think about replacing the white bread in your lunchtime sandwich with high fibre bread, for example. You can also replace your cornflakes with bran flakes. Simple changes like this are often a much better way to eat a healthy diet that will help you lose weight than trying to make many drastic changes all at once. Eating a balanced diet means eating the right amounts of carbohydrates, fats and proteins every day. You don’t need to be too precise about the exact amounts you eat, but you should make sure you cut down on the fats in favour of the other two components in your diet. A big part of being on a balanced and healthy diet is simply being sensible. Think about the things you eat that are obviously not very good for you. Do you eat crisps every day, for example? What about chocolate? Perhaps you have a particular weakness for pastry? Whatever your own personal vices are, you don’t have to give them up entirely. In fact, if you do you are more likely to binge on them when your willpower to resist them finally gives out! Just be sensible and eat a little on occasion, instead of all the time. If you do struggle with your weight, you will find that eating a balanced and nutritious diet not only keeps you feeling full, it also helps you to lose any excess weight you are carrying. And since you aren’t trying to stick to a strict diet, you will also find it much easier to carry on for the long term. We owe it to ourselves to take care of our bodies as best we can. Doing things such as eating a proper diet and perhaps giving consideration to a health insurance policy will ensure that we can keep up that goal for a long time to come.
