If you're going to play brutal death metal, it doesn't make sense to play a guitar that's better suited for jazz or classical. Even the thought of professionals rocking out on toy guitars sounds completely ludicrous. Making sure that you have the right guitar for the job of playing metal is very important for your sound. Here are 6 points to be aware of the next time that you're in the music store looking for a guitar to use for death metal. 1. Thinner necks are good for small hands. If you love to play int the style of death metal but you have smaller hands to work with, you might consider a thinner guitar neck on your next instrument. Thinner guitar necks are good for playing fast without having to work around the bulkiness of a thick fret board. 2. Find a guitar with more frets for lead players. Lead guitarists like to have more possibilities on the fret board and there's no better way to increase the possibilities than with more frets. Make sure that the guitar you pick out has enough frets to satisfy the riffs that you need to play when they're way up high. 3. You gotta have fast action. You can't really think about death metal guitar without thinking about having fast riffs and licks in the songs. Look for a guitar where the strings are very close to the fret board so they are easier to press. That way you don't have to do as much work when playing those really quick verses and intros. 4. Get a guitar with a boost in the low end. There are other guitars that are made to boost different tone areas on the spectrum of sound, but metal guitars can really use the boost in the bottom end. If you're playing fast break downs and choruses, you want to be able to work well with the kick drum and bass for maximum power in your sound. 5. You don't want a guitar that's too heavy. Another important part about playing the guitar is putting on a good stage show in the process and having a guitar that's going to slow you down is no good. Pick out something that's lightweight with good tone so that you can sill move, but sound awesome as the same time. 6. Pick out your colors that define you. As much as you need to look at the functional aspects of the guitar, you can't deny whether you like the look or not for playing death metal. Pick out the guitar that the colors are screaming awesome and the fans are going to swoon over. Having the right guitar for the genre you're playing is one of the more important tips to learning guitar. When you're looking for a guitar in a music store, take out these tips and find something that's the best for death metal guitar-playing as you can get.
