ABC Guide to Corporate Gifts Buying

Choosing the right corporate gifts for loyal clients or suppliers can be a tricky task. With the vast selection of gifts choices and ideas it is often difficult to pick just one or two gifts. There are certain things that one has in mind when choosing promotional gifts:

•Can the item be used or displayed? Many gifts are attractive but fun yet functional gifts definitely offer better value.
•Is the item appropriate for both men and women? A gift with designs for both genders, but of equal value, is probably the best choice.
•Is the brand recognizable? It is almost always better to buy promotional items from well-known manufacturers in terms of value.
•Can the item be personalized? Decide whether it is necessary to add the company logo and/or the recipient’s name to the gift, and then choose the product accordingly.

These are just some of the factors that need to be considered when buying corporate gifts. There are other essentials of corporate gift buying that one needs to know:

Corporate Policies
Certain companies, especially government offices, have a gift policy that sets dollar limits on the value of a gift, as well as prohibits certain promotional products. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to check with the recipients to determine the gift giving limitations so that they will not have to return the item.

Wants and Interests
Probably the biggest challenge of corporate gift buying is knowing what to buy for clients, as it takes effort to know them on a personal level. Call them and ask what they like, their hobbies or interests, to get an idea of what to buy.

Cultural Difference:
Each country has different cultures and hence different rules for corporate gift buying. In China, for instance, a gift should never be wrapped in white because the color symbolizes death.

Quality:
A corporate gift reflects the company’s image; therefore, avoid buying lower quality gifts that can tarnish the company’s image. Opt instead for quality products within the allocated budget.

Handwritten Cards:
For a more lasting impression, handwrite the message instead of just sending a ‘Hallmark’ card with the gift and signature.

Packaging:
The packaging of the gift is as important as choosing the gift itself. Never hesitate to spend time and money on the packaging to show the clients how important they are to the company. There are plenty of gift-wrapping services available from shopping malls and retailers that can be used.

Quantity:
Determine early and correctly how many gifts to buy, then find out what are the quantity requirements – whether the item can purchased singly or must be ordered in large numbers. Some manufacturers offer volume discounts and thus it might be a good idea to purchase enough gifts to last a few years.

Delivery:
Consider delivering the gifts to the clients personally if the list is not too long. This way, clients will appreciate the company even more.

Corporate gift or promotional gift giving is a great way of connecting with loyal clients or suppliers. It helps strengthen client relationships and it can be a fun thing to do as well, as long as one has a positive attitude towards the act.
