Classic Toys That Span Generations

While there will always be toys in high fashion, and others that don’t quite make the hot trends, some are just classic toys that are enjoyed by many generations. Almost every parent today remembers their favorite childhood toy, and quite often watches their children enjoy the same toy. These classic toys have survived for generations, and will continue to survive for many more.

One of the first categories of things that come to mind when you think about classic toys is things you can throw. Baseballs, basket balls, dodge balls, and Frisbees all fall into this category. Many a warm spring afternoon is spent in the back yard or at the park tossing a ball around. Just a short walk around the neighborhood will find several children playing with these classic toys.

A second group of toys often mentioned when discussing classic toys are building blocks. As a child many now grown adults spent hours building houses, forts, bridges, and other creations using this group of classic toys. Boys and girls alike used this classic toy. Some young girls would build a house for their dolls; others would build a fort to keep out the boys. Some young men enjoyed building bridges or tall towers. Today, there are many varieties of this toy are enjoyed by children all over.

Dolls and accessories are another classic toy enjoyed by many generations. Children of all ages enjoy dolls, dollhouses, strollers, and buggies. There is nothing more pleasant than placing a doll in her stroller, and walking to the park for short while. Many children spend hours with their dolls playing games, having tea parties, or simply using her as a trusted confidante.

A fourth group of classic toys are ride on toys. Back when you were a child, you may have had a green horse on wheels, a wagon, tricycle or a teeter totter. Children of today also enjoy ride on toys, but have a wider variety of this group of toys. Ride on toys come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes from buggies, teeter totters, pickups, tricycle, a self propelled tractor and the ever popular little red wagon.

The last group of classic toys enjoyed by children of many generations is playground equipment. Many hours have been spent enjoying the sunshine either in the back yard or at the local neighborhood park on a swing set or slide.
