When it comes down to it, are chickens smarter than we are? Are they aware of some great flood coming for us? The answer, of course, is no. A chicken ark is really just another way to say chicken coop, or any other form of chicken housing. Many people keep chickens today and for many reasons, such as having farm fresh eggs on the table every morning without having to pay for them at the store. For someone who isn't a fan of eggs, or doesn't do a lot of baking, they may find going to the grocery store to be suitable for their needs, but for people who really love eggs, raising chickens can be very rewarding. If you are considering raising chickens, the first thing you'll need to think about is chicken housing. This is essential for the safety of your flock. A chicken ark is not only a good way to keep track of your birds, it also allows you to collect eggs and clean out waste easily and conveniently, as well as keeping the chickens protected from the elements. That's not the only reason to build a chicken ark. An ark can be of a modest size if you're only keeping two or three birds, a good idea if you're just starting out. They're also easy to move around, which means you can keep the chicken ark where it best suits you, even if you're letting your chickens graze in the yard. And, if you decide that chickens just aren't for you, you aren't out too much money and can easily sell the ark without having to tear down a giant building of chicken housing. So where do you find yourself a chicken ark? There are more places than you'd think that can supply your needs. Buying prefabricated arks is a possibility, but they can be expensive, heavy, or just not what you want to keep your chickens in. Or, you could just go for something cheap and easy and string chicken wire around the stakes with some wood boxes for the chickens, but your birds won't be healthy, and may not survive such crude pens. There is help, and if you can follow simple instructions, use some basic tools and of course common sense, you can build chicken housing you can be proud of. A simple online search will bring you more ideas that you can shake a stick at. This can be quite confusing, take lots of time and energy, or you can go with sites that take care of many of these problems. You can find hundred of plans, fully illustrated diagrams, and complete instructions for a wides range of styles and models. One of the things you need to do before you just jump into the first thing you see is find out what your needs are. If you are starting out with just a few birds, you're not going to want something huge and bulky. Check prices with every site, compare what each site is offering, look at example of completed projects etc. If you know anyone who is raising chickens, you can ask them for advice as well.
