Camera Digital Lenses - Before You Buy

By: Stefan Grigson

For many, taking photos is not only a way to capture the smiles on vacation, it's their hobby or passion. For these more serious minded enthusiasts, a quality digital single lens reflex camera and just as vitally the compatible lenses are the investment of choice. Thanks to advantages in technology, the new generation of SLR camera digital lenses are able to produce amazing images at a price that is no longer prohibitive to the masses as had been the case.

When choosing a lens for your digital SLR camera, however, there are a few criteria to consider.
For starters, everyone needs to own what is commonly known as a primary lens. The primary digital camera lenses are non-specialist everyday lenses that you would use most of the time when you don't require zoom, wide angle, macro or a high shutter speed. The primary lens is the bread and butter, so to speak, of your basic camera setup. As you will likely use your primary lens more than any other, it is prudent to invest in good quality camera digital lenses at the start which will be ideal for portraits, still lifes and general everyday photography. Therefore it's a good idea to do your product research before you buy to make sure the lens is compatible and does all that you want.

Now you have your primary sorted, the next item on your camera digital lenses shopping list might well be a zoom lens. Dependent on the type of shot you are after, there are a number of zoom lens options open to you, and unfortunately it's not really a 'one size fits all' issue and depends on the distance over which you want to zoom in on your subject. You should bear in mind though that as a general rule, the greater the zoom, the greater the chance your picture quality will be compromised in relation to clarity and focus. Because of this, many people choose a compact or short range zoom lens as a primary zoom lens and invest in a second digital zoom lens that has a greater zoom length for real close up shots. If you are serious about your photography, a good quality digital zoom lens really is a must have item. Again, do your homework to make sure you get the right camera digital lenses for you, size does matter but it's not necessarily the case that biggest is best.

Rounding out the the list of most-desired Camera Digital Lenses would be the wide-angle lens. This is the lens where the desired shot is just too wide/long to be captured with any other lens type.Typically this is the lens you would use when taking panoramic or scenic photographs where you want to capture as broad an expanse as possible. Wide-angle lenses are definitely cool, but are only used for very specific shots.

In a nutshell, with all three camera digital lenses discussed, in your portfolio, you should be able to produce professional quality photos in almost any genre you tackle. Don't forget to do your product research at each stage to ensure you get each lens that is right for you and at the right price.
