Cancer is the second leading cause of death in the United States after cardiovascular or heart disease. Cancer affects all age group, children adolescent and elderly alike. It is estimated that approximately 59% of people who develop cancer each year will be alive 5 years later Cancer is not a single disease. The term describes almost all forms of malignant neoplasia. Cancer can originate from almost any organ, with the prostate being the most common site in men and breast in women. The ability of cancer to be cured varies considerably and depends on the type of cancer and the extent of the disease at diagnosis.
