Build Golf Muscles When You Are Not on the Club

By: Golfing Pro A A

If you were a jogger, you would probably practice before ever going into competition against others. If you are a person who swims, you might swim miles and miles before competing another person in the pool. But the same is not true for most golfers. For golfers, practice usually doesn't take place. Golfers may warm up before a round, but is about it.
The best training for golf is not done out on the golf course, and it isn't always done on the range either. But, that isn't to say that there are not benefits made on the golf course.
You can learn the greens, figure out your weaknesses and strengths, and view how you perform under heat. On the range, you can work on developing your swing and determine how far you may be able to hit each iron. Even on the putting green, you can work on your feel and your ability to determine a grain or read the grass.
However, the best golf practice may well take place in the weight room. Golf may seem like a leisurely sport sport, but it uses many aspects of overall fitness. One's aerobic ability is important for the amount of time on your feet that takes place over a few hours. The average course is almost four miles long, and a round of golf means a lot of mileage on the feet.
Strength is also a part of the sport because of the many, many times you will swing your irons and driver during even one round. Even if you are shooting 80 or less, you are still swinging a club several hundred times in a round. You will require a lot of power to swing without wincing or deterioration of swing.
Golf training really should begin in the gym. Improve your aerobic capacity and overall strength and you will witness an almost immediate improvement in your game.
