Fashion can sometimes be a difficult thing to fathom. Indeed, by its very definition, it is something that is constantly changing, so it is often hard to know what is popular and what is perhaps not receiving as much exposure in the world of clothing trends. However, the world’s catwalks are a good benchmark of what will be most popular in the coming months, as all the top designers from around the globe are given a platform to showcase their latest outfits. Indeed, the designs on show can be somewhat outlandish and extravagant to the extreme, and it is often difficult to see how their ‘look’ will be transformed into something a little more suited to high street retailers. But those with the foresight and creative eye are normally able to spot the key styles and transfer them into something that – in time – will become ‘the fashion’. But whilst styles come and go, there are some things that simply never go out of fashion; certain ‘classic’ looks have stood the test of time and continue to be worn by people of all ages. Indeed, there’s a lot to be said for simple, plain coloured clothes in that they are often more versatile and can be worn as part of various different outfits. Black trousers, for instance, are a good example of how a single item of clothing can remain popular through various fashion-eras. Marlon Brando and James Dean helped to popularise the ‘all black’ look in the 1950s, where black jeans and a black leather jacket came to symbolise rebellion among the newly emerging ‘youth culture’. And this was still evident in the punk-rock scene that emerged in the 1970s, where tight, black denim or leather trousers were worn, often deliberately ripped, to appear as confrontational as possible. But of course, black trousers have never been exclusively for those wishing to rebel against society and it’s as much to do with the cut and style of the trousers as it is to do with them simply being black. Black trousers are also quite commonly found as part of a suit, where they are worn at weddings, funerals, interviews and any other engagement that is deemed important enough to require smart or formal attire. However, as is the case with any type of item of clothing, there are always major fashion faux-pas to be wary off. The main golden rule to remember when wearing black trousers is never to wear white socks at the same time, as this is generally regarded as not being a very complimentary combination, particularly in formal situations. So, whilst fashion may be forever changing, there are some items that are versatile enough to be worn across many decades as part of completely different outfits; mens trousers are a classic fashion item that will undoubtedly have a place in even the most discerning fashionista’s wardrobe.
