A Battery tester is a device that is used in determining the charge amount left in a battery. This device helps in the prevention of battery failures. A rotary switch usually accompanies electronic testers with 2 leads. These functions choose the battery type being tested. For the specific battery type that is being tested, the switch makes a selection of a suitable capacitor and a load. This process is described as a realistic load. If the battery‘s current is tested with a suitable load, the percentage of time under the stated load that the battery would last is calculated by the battery tester. The percentage calculated is equivalent to a reasonable maximum amount of time that the battery type should linger. The outcome is then presented as a percent (%) charge that is left in the battery. This result would vary in the various testers. Some might show the remaining charge as near full capacity with green indicator. Some present it as partly discharged using a yellow indicator. Others would show it as just a percentage while other will indicate this as being almost discharged using a red indicator. This is a good description of how the battery strength is indicated. Another thing to know is that the rate of battery discharge varies with different batteries. It is expected that the various batteries be operated under different loads. A good feature to look for in a battery tester, is that it has the ability to compensate for variations in discharge times and patterns. There should be elements of automation in sensing the battery type or they should have separate settings for the various battery technologies obtainable in each standard battery size.
