Who would have thought that bamboo, wood, shell, stone, and glass could make such a soulful sound? With every passing blow of the breeze, a tinkling sound ensues. This melodious song comes from an object called a wind chime. Hung from a place where the wind could freely move among its chimes, it does its job well. The sound touches the spirit, relaxes anyone who can hear. Wind chimes are good additions to your garden not only to make it look even more beautiful but to add interesting sounds as well. Depending on the materials of your wind chime, sound can range from gentle tinkling to dry thuds. Sound is produced when the tubes or rods come in contact with a central clapper or with each other. Common materials used to make wind chimes are metal, glass, ceramics, wood and bamboo. If you want a garden wind chime that will give off sound that will blend well with the nature feel of your landscaped garden then bamboo wind chimes will be good for you. Bamboo wind chimes produce soothing sounds. The sounds produced are similar to the sounds made by branches rubbing against each other. It is not as clanking as the sound of metal wind chimes and as jarring as the sound of glass wind chimes. This type of wind chime is available in different home improvement stores as well as on the internet but you can also make your own. Creating your own garden wind chime made of bamboo will allow you to have something that will match the general look of your garden. Here are the steps in making your own wind chime. 1. Buy several stalks of bamboo in any garden supplies store. Make sure that what you are buying have no cuts along its length. Make sure also that they are not rotten. 2. Cut the bamboo into several pieces depending on how big you want your wind chime to be. 3. Drill two holes on one end of each piece and tie a string through it. 4. Get one piece of bamboo then raise it by holding on the string. Strike it with another piece and listen to the sound it will produce. If it produces a pleasing sound then you can set it aside already. Otherwise adjust its length until you hear the sound you want. 5. Do the same with another piece but this time cut it shorter than the first. Check the sound the same way you checked the first. Do this with the rest of the pieces. 6. Get a long piece of bamboo or stick. Drill holes along the length of the bamboo or stick. Make sure that the space is just enough that the sticks will not touch each other when it is still but will hit each other when it catches wind. 7. Hang the pieces of bamboo through the holes. Arrange them from shortest to the longest. 8. Your bamboo wind chime is now ready for hanging but you can enhance its look further by putting designs or drawings on the bamboo pieces. With your wind chime, you can now be more relaxed in your newly landscaped garden. You now comfortably read your book while being serenaded by the sound of your chime. Bamboo wind chimes are great for any garden because of the natural soothing sound it gives. But they can also be used on other places like in the windows of your bedroom.
