If you are looking for a top class British holiday then you will be hard pushed to beat the Isle of Wight and the beautiful town of Shanklin. Shanklin is well known to cater for people whatever their age and is ideal for both a weekend away or a longer weekly trip. Below is my personal list of must do things in the town of Shanklin whilst your there!

• Visit the Shanklin Chine – This historical gorge is home to spectacular waterfalls and a natural preserve. A tea garden and gift shop is also provided as well as a heritage centre that shows a large variety of exhibitions about the history of the Isle of Wight and World War 2.

• Ride the Shanklin Dotto Train – Great for the kids this train runs along a circular course from the Esplanade via the “Olde Village” between the months of April and October. Running from 10am till 5pm you can catch this train every 30 minutes.

• Stroll through America Wood – Part of the Woodland trust which includes over 1,000 woods in the UK, the America Wood covers 27 acres of peaceful walkways.

• Sail away with Shanklin Sailing Club – Founded in 1931 the Shanklin Sailing Club have a large variety of boats including Laser’s, Toppers, Pico’s and Mirror’s. Most races are held on Thursday night and early Sunday morning but the rest of the time is free for visitors to sail. The club is based between Ventor and Sandown, close to the end of Shanklin promenade.

• Sample some Culture at Shanklin Theatre – This historical Victorian theatre is host to the Isle of Wight’s finest plays, musicals and dances.
